The new machines were selected following a competitive tender process and third party references. according to Kaz Plant manager Arren Knight. 鈥淥ur last experience with the Volvo 14-tonne machine was back in 2005 when we took the B version machines, and whilst they were reliable and performed well we just needed to sound out other users of the latest D version before committing,鈥 he said.
鈥淎part from a good previous experience the two other factors that persuaded us was the competitive package on the table and the ease of access onto the machine鈥檚 superstructure immediately behind the operator鈥檚 cab,鈥 he continued. This access feature to the machine鈥檚 superstructure has, for Kaz Plant, precluded the need to fit bespoke safety rails around the top of the machine.
All four EC140Ds have been deployed by sister company Baram Groundwork on housing construction projects for major house-building contractors.
