After seeing an advertisement for the Jewson Challenge in Countryside magazine, Claire Whitehorn decided to submit a 300-word entry about the ambitious self build project she was undertaking.
It was love at first sight for Claire Whitehorn and her family when they first laid eyes on the farm workers cottage (dated 1851) in the beautiful hamlet of Bank, just outside Lyndhurst in the New Forest. The fact that the property was in a state of disrepair did not deter the family and they set about rebuilding the property to its former glory.
鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 believe it when the Jewson Self Build team contacted me and gave me the news, this is going to help so much with the project. In addition, knowing that we can take advantage of Jewson鈥檚 self-build consultation service and the advice and opinion of the Jewson team is going to be incredibly reassuring.鈥 Claire Whitehorn commented.
鈥淲ith the help of our Jewson Challenge prize money we have almost completely gutted the house. Our plan is to have a 4 bedroom home keeping the character of the New Forest 鈥 reinstalling the sash windows and bringing the character and history of the property back to life.鈥
Lee Broomhall, Head of the Jewson Self Build team commented: 鈥淲e are delighted for the Whitehorn family. Renovating a property takes a significant investment and can be hugely challenging 鈥 but with the help of the Jewson Self Build team and the 拢1000 prize money our customers can now benefit from a wealth of expertise and building materials designed to make any project a success.鈥
