ISG to build Cardiff Business School

31 Jul 13 ISG has picked up a £13.5m contract to build Cardiff University’s new Business School at its Cathays Park campus.

It is ISG鈥檚 first contract for the university and is set to be a new landmark on the campus.

The new Cardiff Business School building will have 54,300 sq ft of space, including a 250-seat lecture theatre.

The elliptical four-storey structure will have terracotta rainscreen cladding to its fa莽ade and an attached two-storey teaching wing with extensive curtain walling.

Solar panels and rainwater harvesting for re-use to flush toilets will help the building meet aspirations for a BREEAM Excellent rating. Bird and bat boxes are also designed in to improve campus biodiversity.

The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2014, ahead of the new academic year.

John Rawlinson, ISG鈥檚 Western regional managing director, said: 鈥淲e have worked extremely hard to bring this important regional project to site, carefully balancing the requirements to deliver an outstanding landmark building within tight budgetary restraints and no margin for error. ISG has a well-deserved track record in value engineering projects to minimise costs without diminishing the form and function of a building, and the Business School is an excellent example of what can be achieved through close collaboration and innovative thinking.

鈥淎s Cardiff University seeks to further expand its reputation for excellence across the globe, this striking new building reinforces its commitment to providing the very finest facilities for study and academic research.鈥
