The Hurlingham Club is a private members鈥 club in Fulham noted for its provision of polo, croquet and racquet sports facilities.
The new Racquet Centre provides a permanent structure for squash and indoor tennis courts, replacing an existing marquee structure. It has been designed by David Morley Architects to sit within the wider park setting. The new building has a low profile form with sunken courts and a barrel-vaulted green sedum roof to minimise its visual impact.聽聽
听罢丑别 steel frame structure will accommodate four tennis courts and four squash courts, designed to Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and World Squash Federation (WSF) standards respectively. ISG will also create a single multiple use games area (MUGA), changing facilities and an upper level viewing gallery running the length of the building.聽聽
听罢丑别 barrel-vaulted roof structure is formed using approximately 60 individual off-site manufactured timber cassettes 鈥 each 13m long and 1.2m wide. At its widest point, 40m spans of glazed roof let in natural daylight, while glazed gable ends incorporate mechanical louvers operated by a building management system (BMS) to naturally ventilate the structure. The squash courts and MUGA incorporate a forced ventilation system with underfloor heating in the changing facilities.
Externally, ISG will refurbish two existing outdoor tennis courts, reinstate car parking and carry out hard and soft landscaping. The project is scheduled for completion towards the end of 2015.
ISG regional managing director Stuart Deverill said: 鈥淭his prestigious scheme builds on our specialist sporting credentials, which were given a global showcase at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The new Racquet Centre at The Hurlingham Club has been carefully designed to provide a discrete and sustainable addition to the range of high-specification facilities available to members, while enhancing the built environment in this stunning parkland setting.鈥
