The university has signed a five-year memorandum of understanding to help the Chinese construction giant develop its use of the new technology. There will also be opportunities for research staff and students, including work placements and employment.

Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG) is ranked as one of the world鈥檚 50 biggest contractors, employing 20,000 people around the world. It is active in the UK as part of a consortium investing 拢800m in Manchester Airport City.

鈥淏IM improves collaboration at the design stage, reduces changes during construction and also improves facility management at the operational stage,鈥 said Song Wu, who is professor of surveying and IT at the university, who was instrumental in securing the deal.

Joint projects will be developed, events will be held and there will be placement opportunities at BCEG for undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University, where the School of Art, Design & Architecture has a new MSc course, entitled Design Integration and Building Information Modelling, launched in September 2015.
