House-builders back employment taster programme

5 Jan 23 Nine leading housing developers are working with the Home Builders Federation and the Women into Construction campaign group to encourage more women to work on construction sites.

The employment programme hopes to attract women into site management roles by offering a programme that will provide childcare support and cover training costs.

Barratt Developments, Bellway Homes, Cala Homes, The Hill Group, Keepmoat, Persimmon Homes, Redrow, St Modwen and Vistry Group are all on board with the initiative.

Applicants will get a week of online insight and development sessions, including basic health & safety training, followed by a two-week work placement on site, with coaching and support from Women into Construction.

The work placements will take place at employer sites across England, offering a taste of the site manager role.

Women interested in this are invited to at 11am on Tuesday 31st January 2023.

Women into Construction business development director Jacqui Wordsworth said: "With women representing just 4% of site managers, we want to inspire and encourage more women to take up a career in home building 鈥 helping us and our employer partners to change the face of construction.鈥澛

Home Builders Federation director Jenny Herdman added: 鈥淭he home building industry is facing a significant skills shortage. If we are to build the new housing this country desperately needs, it is vital that we attract a broad range of entrants into the industry.鈥
