The split of the work on the Calaveras Dam will be 40% Dragados, 30% Flatiron and 30% Sukut Construction. Preconstruction activities at the site in Sunol, California, are scheduled for this summer and project completion is anticipated in late 2015.
The project includes replacement of the original dam with a new 64m-high earth and rock fill dam designed to accommodate earthquakes on the Calaveras Fault. There will also be a new concrete spillway. The dam will be constructed immediately downstream of the existing dam and will have a crest length of 369m with a capacity of approximately 2.14m3. The replacement dam will be designed to provide the option for portions of the dam to be reused should there be a future proposal to expand the water storage capacity of the reservoir.
