In response to a Freedom of Information request, the Highway Agency revealed that it spent 拢15.3m on renewing road markings in 2013/14, compared to just 拢6.8m the previous year.
However, expenditure on renewing traffic signs declined to 拢2.7m in 2013/14, down from 拢3.3m the previous year.
Additionally, according to information held, the Highways Agency spent a further 拢6.6m on new traffic signs and road markings on its major projects, nearly double the 拢3.5m spent the previous year.
鈥淚t should be noted that the agency do not currently have a breakdown of costs for every scheme completed,鈥 the Highways Agency cautioned. 鈥淭herefore it should be noted that the full costs to the Agency for road markings and traffic signs are likely to be significantly higher.鈥
