Highland councillors made the decision at a meeting of the full Highland Council yesterday (1st March).
The Highland Building Employers Association, the local branch of the Scottish Building Federation, had previously warned that a failure to make a decision on the project before this year鈥檚 local government elections could set economic development in Inverness back by years.
Association president Willie Gray said he was 鈥榙elighted鈥� by the council鈥檚 decision.
Mr Gray said: 鈥淚鈥檓 delighted that Highland councillors have had the courage to make a decision to press ahead with this project and have selected their preferred route. The Inverness West Link is crucial to securing a sustainable long-term economic future for Inverness. It will help ease congestion in the city centre, making it a more attractive location for businesses to base themselves and for people to visit and to live. It will open up key areas to the west of the city for potential future development. Most of all, it sends a clear message that Inverness is open for business and reinforces the city鈥檚 status as the gateway to the Highland region as a whole.鈥�
