Hewden buys Firefly’s rental arm

13 May 16 Hewden has bought the rental arm of Firefly, which designs and manufactures hybrid generators.

The acquisition 鈥 which is Hewden鈥檚 second of this year - is in line with the company's commitment to providing sustainable hire solutions.

A range of equipment will be added to Hewden鈥檚 product portfolio as part of the acquisition, including generators, hybrid units, solar panels, distribution units, cables and lighting solutions.

Hewden CEO Adrian Murphy said, 鈥淪ustainability is no longer a 鈥榥ice to have鈥, but rather a fundamental part of how businesses should run. Hewden is committed to providing the most sustainable solutions possible from the products we hire to the places we operate.

鈥淭his investment allows us to expand our portfolio of sustainable power products and ensure we deliver on our promise to be the leading on-site solutions provider in the UK.鈥

The acquisition of Firefly鈥檚 rental business follows more than 拢25m-worth of investment this year on products such as generators, skid steer and tracked loaders, telehandlers, non-mechanical plant and cranes. It also follows Hewden鈥檚 acquisition of lifting and materials handling firm, Interlift at the start of the year.

鈥淲e鈥檙e going into new areas such as events, as well as specialist parts of the industrial sector,鈥 said Murphy. 鈥淥ver the past 12 months we鈥檝e restructured the business to take a more sector-based approach.鈥
