The 170-bed aparthotel building wraps around a three-storey Grade II listed Victorian warehouse in Birmingham鈥檚 Jewellery Quarter Conservation Area. It is part of the wider Newhall Square mixed-used scheme.
Project client is RO Developments, which has pre-let the building to Irish operator Staycity. Staycity already has another 78-bed aparthotel in Birmingham鈥檚 Arcadian Centre.
GB Building Solutions has chosen a fast-track steel frame construction method to get the project finished by the end of April 2015.
GB Building Solutions executive chairman Martin Smout said: 鈥淭his is a prime brownfield site, the home of the city鈥檚 former Science Museum, where there has been some significant progress made in regenerating this historically significant area. Our team has chosen a construction method that prioritises site safety, an important consideration given the proximity of the listed building, the canal-side and Charlotte Street.鈥
Architect GWP has designed the five-storey building. GWP director Richard Townend said: 鈥淲e are proud to continue our association with GB Building Solutions in the residential and accommodation sector. This will be our fifth scheme together and we are looking forward to delivering a successful project to Staycity鈥檚 exacting requirements.鈥
