The renewal of the Midlands Highway Alliance鈥檚 medium schemes framework contract (MSF2) sees Galliford Try enter the arena and BAM Nuttall depart.
Where MSF1 provided 20 local authorities in the Midlands region with a panel of contractors to choose form for schemes up to 拢12m in value, MSF2 sees the upper value of schemes covered extended to 拢25m.
The MSF2 contract starts from today and runs for 3+1 years.
The framework is divided into two lots. Lot 1 is for schemes valued at less than 拢5m and is expected to result in a total workload of 拢70m over the four years for the contractors.
The five contractors selected for this are:
- Lafarge Tarmac / Carillion joint venture
- Eurovia/Ringway
- Balfour Beatty
- Aggregate Industries
- Galliford Try
Lot 2 is for schemes valued at between 拢5m and 拢25m. The total pipeline value of this lot is 拢191m. Three contracting teams have been chosen for this:
- Galliford Try/ Aggregate Industries
- Lafarge Tarmac / Carillion joint venture
- Balfour Beatty.
The previous incumbents of the framework were Tarmac/Carillion, Ringway, Balfour Beatty and BAM Nuttall. BAM Nuttall made a firm bid to stay involved but was not selected.
The Midlands Highway Alliance is the regional highways maintenance procurement partnership established in 2007 between 20 local authorities in the Midlands, and the Highways Agency. Leicestershire County Council takes the lead.
The framework programme will encompass delivery of the whole lifecycle of road projects on behalf of the relevant authorities, specifically road reconfigurations, resurfacing, waterproofing, enabling works, and design and delivery of new bridges and carriageways.
Galliford Try said that it anticipates that it will be allocated works with a total value of 拢81m under both framework lots. Chief executive Greg Fitzgerald said: "We are delighted to have been appointed to this key framework for the first time. We already have a strong track record in both highways and construction, particularly in the Midlands where we are currently progressing the 拢52 million A45/A46 Tollbar End Improvement project. This new framework appointment is an outstanding opportunity to build on that success."
