Bracken House was built in the 1950s to provide offices for the Financial Times newspaper. Obayashi Corporation took ownership in 1987 and redeveloped it in 1992 to a design by architect Michael Hopkins. The original building had two wings of office space flanking a central printing works.聽 When printing moved out to the Docklands, this area was converted to offices.

Obayashi has now submitted a planning application to the City of London Corporation for further refurbishment of the Grade II listed building, which is near St Paul鈥檚 Cathedral.

The new scheme has been designed by John Robertson Architects to create a better working environment for the tenants. Bracken House will offer approximately 200,000 sq ft of net lettable office accommodation.

Subject to planning permission, the refurbishment will be completed in mid-2018.

Obayashi Corporation said: 鈥淎s custodians of this iconic London building we will be looking to refurbish to the highest possible standard.聽 We believe the plans that have been submitted will allow us to improve the working conditions for tenants without compromising the original architecture.鈥
