It will work with local engineering company Sainc to build a powerhouse access tunnel and two river diversion tunnels at the power station, 170km kilometers from MedellÃn. The hydroelectric power station will be one of the largest in the country.
Ferrovial Agroman – which is Ferrovial’s construction subsidiary - will build two parallel tunnels, both 1km in length and 14m in diameter, to divert water from the Cauca River. The powerhouse access tunnel that is also being built under the contract will be almost 1km long, with a 140m-long gallery.
This is Ferrovial's first contract in Colombia's Antioquia region. Construction is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2013.
"This new contract strengthens the company's international presence and its commitment to operating in countries with high growth expectations and strong demand for infrastructure, such as Colombia," said Ferrovial Agroman CEO Alejandro de la Joya.
The company’s revenue outside Spain in the first quarter of this year amounted to €463m, which was 52% of the total.Â
