Europe’s construction output falls

20 Oct 15 Production in Europe’s construction sector was 5% lower in August than in the same month a year ago.

The initial estimates from the European Union鈥檚 statistical office, Eurostat, also show that the year鈥檚 fall across the 19 countries of the Eurozone (EA19) was slight greater, at 6%.

The largest decreases were recorded in Slovenia (-15.5%), France (-9.2%) and Hungary (-6.1%), and the highest increases in Sweden (+13.0%), Romania (+10.4%) and Slovakia (+9.8%).

The statistics also looked at August 2015 figures compared to the previous month. The UK experienced one of Europe's worst monthly drops, falling 4.8% in August 2015 compared to July.

A comparison of August鈥檚 figures with July 2015 shows a fall of 1.2% across the whole EU (EU28) and 聽0.2% for the Eurozone. In July, production in construction had grown by 0.4% in both.

Among member states with available data, the largest decreases in production in construction were recorded in Slovakia (-5%), the United Kingdom (-4.8%) and Slovenia (-4.5%), and the highest increases in Portugal (+0.9%), Poland and France (both +0.6%).
