Seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector remained stable in both the Eurozone and the wider EU in July 2014 compared with June 2014.
In June 2014, production in the 18 countries using the Euro (EA18) had fallen by 0.4%, with a fall of 0.1% across all 28 countries of the EU (EU28).
In terms of the annual comparison, output in July increased by 0.4% in the Euro area compared with July 2013 and by 0.6% in the EU28.
The monthly figures for the EA18 saw building construction rise by 0.4%, while civil engineering fell by 2.1% compared with聽 June聽 2014. In the EU28, production in construction聽 also remained stable as building construction increased by 0.2%,聽 while civil engineering dropped by 1%.
The highest increases in production in construction were observed in聽 Hungary聽 (+3.9%), Germany聽 (+1.7%),聽 Spain and聽 Sweden聽 (both +1 %),聽 and the聽 largest decreases聽 in聽 the聽 Czech Republic聽 (-3.1%), Slovenia聽 (-2.1%),聽 France (-1.5%) and Poland (-1%).
The annual increase of 0.4% in production in construction in the Euro area compared with July聽 2013 is due to building construction rising by 0.8%, while civil engineering fell by 2.0%. In the EU28, the increase of 0.6% is due to building construction rising by 1.0%, while civil engineering fell by 1.9%. The highest increases in production in construction were registered in聽 Slovenia聽 (+24.8%),聽 Hungary聽 (+17.5%) and Spain (+11.6%), and the largest decreases in Romania (-19.7%), Portugal (-8.8%) and Slovakia (-6.1%).
