As well as being crowned the 鈥渙verall鈥 Employer of the Year, Crofton was named Young Employer (small company) of the year as well.
This makes it four award wins in two months for the consulting engineer. The company recently won the 鈥淩estoration Award鈥 at the Institution of Civil Engineering (ICE) Awards (Kent and East Sussex branch) and the 鈥淏est Building Structures鈥 award (small firm) at the national ACE Engineering Excellence Awards, for the restoration of the Victorian Grade II-listed Leas Lift in Folkestone.
CIBSE aims to support the science, art and practice of building services engineering, by providing its members and the public with first class information and education services.
The CIBSE Employer of the Year Awards recognise those employers who have shown excellence and innovation in developing the engineers of the future. They reward organisations who proactively champion young people in the industry, whether through a commitment to young people in employment or by supporting those employees through education.
The judges said they were particularly impressed by Crofton鈥檚 university and school work placements scheme and their involvement in the Engineering Development Trust's 鈥楨ngineering Education Scheme'.聽
"The winning companies have shown real dedication to nurturing the talent that is the next generation of building services engineers," said Andy Ford, CIBSE President. "The industry faces the challenge of ensuring that engineering is the career choice for talented students, apprentices and graduates, therefore it is vital that companies support and encourage young talent as much as possible,鈥 he continued.
Steve Hale, Crofton鈥檚 managing director said: 鈥淥ur belief is that interest in the engineering industry needs to be encouraged before students embark on higher education. If we can interest them from a young age in a career in building services engineering, then I think we have a better chance of seeing many more young people coming into the industry in the next generation.鈥澛
Crofton specialises in mechanical, electrical, structural and civil engineering design within the construction industry. The company has offices in Tonbridge, Kent; Newhaven, East Sussex and in London.
