A report going before all councillors on Thursday 27th October outlines the proposals which are anticipated to bring around 160 energy efficient affordable homes, 13 retail units, new office space for local services and a new quality civic square and public realm, linking this centre with the wider area.
鈥淭he principle benefit to the council of using the Scape framework is immediate access to a pre-procured single contractor who is successfully delivering affordable homes and community benefits at the 21st Century Homes Pennywell development鈥� says the report.
The redevelopment of the civic centre will complete the regeneration of this area, consolidating public and private investment made to date in the 21st Century Homes development of more than 700 new homes and the delivery of an NHS led partnership centre next to the new Craigroyston Community High School.
The civic centre redevelopment contract will be delivered in phases over an estimated three to four year period.
Councillor Cammy Day, the housing convener, said: 鈥淭he Pennywell development is Scotland鈥檚 largest housing-led regeneration scheme which captures what we鈥檙e aiming for across the city - a range of affordable, energy efficient homes that are completed to the highest standard. We know there is a strong desire within the Pennywell and Muirhouse community to see the area transformed into a new 鈥榗ivic heart鈥� for the existing, new and emerging population. These proposals for a new local centre and community hub will make the area an attractive place where people wish to live, work and play and will serve future generations.鈥�
