The project, which will be named DeWarren House, is the first collaboration between Denne, part of the Leadbitter Group, and Gravesend Churches Housing Association (GCHA). It will contain ten one-bed and four two-bed flats as well as two ground floor apartments that will be developed especially for wheelchair users. 聽
GCHA manages over 550 homes in Gravesham, Dartford and Maidstone and provides general needs homes as well as a supported housing for young people and purpose built housing for people with learning and physical disabilities.聽 Denne won the contract, worth 拢1.6m, after completing a number of successful projects with Town and Country Housing Group, a project partner of GCHA.
The works, which started May 2011, involve the demolition of the existing apartment block and the construction of the new timber frame homes which will meet Code for Sustainable Homes level 3
Graham Brown, Managing Director, Denne said: 鈥淲e hope that this project can mark the start of a long working relationship with Gravesend Churches Housing Association. The apartments that we are constructing on behalf of GCHA will provide much needed, affordable housing for the Northfleet area.鈥
GCHA chief executive, Veronica Mabey, has stated that she, the board and staff are extremely pleased to see the start of the association鈥檚 first development for 10 years.聽 鈥淕CHA鈥檚 strategy is to deliver a modest programme of growth over the next 5 years which together with ongoing efficiencies will see the association well placed to take on further business opportunities.鈥
