The winners were announced by LABC President Mick Henmanand presented with their prizes by BBC London鈥檚 Wendy Hurrellduring a ceremony on 10th June at Copthorne Effingham Hotel Gatwick.
Denne, which is part of the Leadbitter Group, completed the building in late 2010, providing a distinctive new facility that creates additional capacity for LEMO to develop its UK base. The iconic design features a prominent curved fa莽ade and reflects the company鈥檚 high tech corporate image.
Judges awarded the Best Commercial Development award to the LEMO (UK) Headquarters because, 鈥淭his iconic building makes a new architectural statement within the borough of Worthing. The design was challenging to all members of the design and approval team however the close team working openly adopted by all throughout has led to the successful outcome that is clear for all to see.鈥
The state-of-the art building in North Street, Worthing is now occupied by LEMO (UK) Ltd. which produces high performance electrical and fibre optic connectors and cable assembly. The company鈥檚 specialist products are used for advanced technology applications such as hybrid fibre links for HDTV and the Formula 1 ECU (electronic control unit).
The building incorporates significant overhangs at the front and rear, stepping back from the southern end on each of the upper floors, to allow views through to the nearby church and surrounding area. The facility includes warehousing, manufacturing and prototyping facilities, an R&D laboratory and office, plus administration space and a cafeteria.聽
Graham Brown, Managing Director of Denne, said: 鈥淲e are very proud that the LEMO Headquarters has achieved such recognition in the LABC South East Building Excellence awards. The finished building is a credit to all members of the team and provides a significant landmark in the heart of Worthing.鈥
