Two storeys of the 26-storey building in the Queens area had been erected when the 60-metre lattice boom of the crane toppled onto it (see picture below).
Reports say that the old model Manitowoc crane had only been on site for about four days.
The crane was owned by New York Crane, which also saw one of its tower cranes collapsed in the city in 2008, killing two workers. Owner Jimmy Lomma was prosecuted and聽eventually acquitted of criminal charges after that collapse.
That was one of two high-profile fatal tower crane collapses in New York that year.
Then in April 2012, Yonkers Contracting Co.had a lattice boom Manitowoc 4100 crawler crane collapse in New York City, killing a worker on the site.
