Crane collapse trial starts

17 Apr 12 The trial of consulting engineer Bingham Davis and contractor Bowmer & Kirkland Ltd began yesterday over the collapse of a tower crane in Liverpool in July 2009.

A Wolff 500B luffing jib tower crane toppled while making a lift during construction of an apartment block and hotel on the Kings Dock Mill site in Liverpool鈥檚 Chandlers Wharf. Operator Iain Gillham, a 53-year-old father of four, was left paralysed from the waist down.

Both defendants deny breaching health and safety laws. The case at Liverpool lCrown Court聽is expected to last for four weeks.

Bingham Davis went into liquidation in October 2010 and certain assets were taken over by Curtins.
