Costain has won the contract for highway infrastructure for the Lancaster South Growth Catalyst project, to support planned housing development in the area.
The project involves reconfiguring the north facing slip roads of Junction 33 on the M6, relocating them 2km northwards, maintaining connectivity to the southern facing slip roads with a connector road parallel to the motorway.
A new highway connection from the new northern slip roads to the A6 north will create a bypass for the village of Galgate.
The package of works also includes a 300-metre link under the West Coast Main Line, to connect to the Bailrigg Garden Village site, and a 2km spine road though the garden village site.
Costain has been appointed to act initially as consultant to assist with design and statutory procedure support ahead of moving on to actual construction.
