Contract awarded for €1.1bn Baltic windfarm

10 Nov 16 Vattenfall has won the tender for the largest windfarm in the Nordic region.

It will build Kriegers Flak, a 600MW offshore windfarm in the Baltic Sea off Denmark. Vattenfall鈥檚 investment in Kriegers Flak will be 鈧1.1bn to 鈧1.3bn (拢979m-拢1.16bn), pending a final investment decision.

The winning bid was 鈧49.9 per MWh, which claimed to be among the lowest costs in the world for offshore wind power.

聽鈥淭he announcement is an essential milestone for our ambition to increase our production of renewable power,鈥 said 聽鈥淲e are already the second largest offshore player globally. The winning bid of 鈧49,9 per MWh proves that Vattenfall is highly competitive and brings down the costs for renewable energy.鈥

Kriegers Flak will will be able to supply 600,000 Danish households with renewable energy 鈥 corresponding to 23% of all households in the county.

鈥淚鈥檓 very proud of our people in the Wind organisation who once again delivered a winning bid. Vattenfall has won the three latest offshore wind tenders in Denmark; Horns Rev 3, Danish Near Shore and Kriegers Flak, equivalent to the energy consumption of 55 percent of the Danish households鈥, said Gunnar Groebler, head of Vattenfall Wind.

In September, Vattenfall won the tender for the 350MW Danish Near Shore project. The project is pending the Danish Parliament鈥檚 decision to proceed.

鈥淥ur winning bid for Kriegers Flak is 58 percent below the original cap of 聽鈧0.12,鈥 added Groebler. 鈥淔or the Danish Near Shore project the bid was also substantially below its cap. Proceeding with these two projects, Vattenfall provides Denmark with a cost efficient contribution to meet the country鈥檚 climate targets and customers鈥 demand for renewable energy.鈥
