The government had issued a 鈥榥otice to consult鈥 in August as the first formal step. 鈥淭oday we get down to business,鈥 said deputy prime minister and minister for infrastructure and regional development Warren Truss. 鈥淔ormal consultation between the Australian government and Sydney Airport Group, as part of the right of first refusal process, will involve a series of meetings over a nine-month period to explore options for a Western Sydney airport.鈥
Following the consultation, the Australian government may decide to make a contractual offer to the Sydney Airport Group.
Truss said that work was also under way to roll out the AU$3.6bn (拢2bn) Western Sydney roads package to support the growing Western Sydney population and the proposed airport.
