The ONS said that downward pressure came from both all new work (down 2.2% on the quarter) and repair & maintenance (down 2.1%). All work types except infrastructure and private industrial were down in the second quarter
In the three months that make up the third quarter (July to September), the largest fall was seen in August (-3.4%).
In September 2015, output in the construction industry was estimated to have decreased by 0.2% compared with August 2015 due to a fall in all new work of 2.4%. This was offset by repair and maintenance which increased by 3.8%.
On the year, output in the construction industry decreased by 1.6% in September 2015 compared with September 2014.
ONS has adjusted some of its previous monthly estimates for output in the construction industry due to late data. July 2015 has been revised downwards from -1.0% to -1.2%; August 2015 has been revised upwards from -4.3% to -3.4%.
