Construction accreditation company first of its type to gain Chartered Building Consultancy status

12 Jul 12 Chesterfield-based Benchmarc has become the first and only company of its type to gain Chartered Building Consultancy status from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Benchmarc can now deliver construction-related accreditation services to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on a nationwide basis, only one of a handful in Yorkshire and the East Midlands.

Benchmarc Managing Director Marcus Leverton recently graduated as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (FCIOB), the highest professional qualification in the field of construction. Achieving the Fellowship, enabled Mr Leverton to apply for and undertake the tough process of gaining Chartered Status for Benchmarc鈥檚 services giving it licence to use the Royal Charter nationally.

Delighted to have achieved the construction industry鈥檚 highest accolade, Marcus Leverton said:聽 鈥淚t鈥檚 a great honour, for both myself and the business, to have achieved the Royal Charter.聽 Clients are demanding ever higher levels of service and quality and the Royal Charter, and resulting membership of The Chartered Building Consultancy Scheme, proves that my work at Benchmarc is of the highest standard and displays professionalism and integrity in construction.鈥

Benchmarc was established in 2011 with the specific aim of assisting SMEs achieve relevant construction-related accreditations. The award couldn鈥檛 have come at a better time for the business as demand for the company鈥檚 services increases due to central government and more and more local authorities requiring suppliers to have the necessary accreditations to be eligible to tender for contracts. Failure to have the necessary accreditations means that businesses could be missing out on up to 25% of government contracts awarded to SMEs.

Marcus added: 鈥淚t is becoming more common for local authorities to insist on contractors having Constructionline and a Health & Safety accreditation like CHAS. The necessary paperwork to achieve the accreditation is an off-putting and time-consuming prospect to many SMEs, which is where Benchmarc comes in. In as little as two weeks we can help a company gain the necessary accreditation to enable them to gain access to the tender stage and potentially win contracts.鈥
