Stoke-on-Trent City Council appointed Sapphire in January to build 390 extra care apartments in villages at three sites across the city under a 拢100m private finance initiative (PFI) deal. () This has now reached financial close.
The consortium comprises building firms Eric Wright Group and Seddon Construction along with housing provider Your Housing Group, which will manage the properties on completion, and developer/investor Kajima Partnerships.
As part of the scheme Seddon will transform the former Westcliffe Hospital site in Chell, which will see 140 apartments built over the next two years under a a 拢21.5m deal.
Eric Wright Construction will build the other two developments in Holdcroft Fields, Abbey Hulton and in Consett Road, Blurton.
Seddon regional director Eamonn Burns said: 鈥淲e are delighted that we can now begin work to deliver these much-needed apartments for Stoke-on-Trent.
鈥淎s well as delivering a state-of-the-art extra care facilities, the development will see the delivery of new jobs and apprenticeships as well as benefitting the local supply chain as we look to appoint firms close to the development where possible.鈥
