Cimic wins Australian prison upgrades

13 Apr 17 Cimic company CPB Contractors has won a design and construct contract to upgrade a prison in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW).

The AU$134m (拢80m) contract for Corrective Services NSW is for infrastructure upgrades at the Junee Correctional Centre, which is situated on 106ha site 40km from Wagga Wagga and 450km west of Sydney.

As managing contractor, CPB Contractors will expand the existing prison to create a total of 480 new beds. The scheme will incorporate new maximum security and administration buildings and includes the demolition or relocation of existing buildings as well as refurbishment of infrastructure to support the prison鈥檚 increased capacity.

CPB Contractors managing director Rom谩n Garrido said: 鈥淲e will continue to work with Corrective Services NSW and Justice Infrastructure to achieve innovative and cost-effective solutions for this project. Developing increased job and work opportunities for local workers and businesses is also a priority for our team as the project progresses.鈥

Construction is scheduled to begin in the middle of this year and conclude in 2019.
