We are used to seeing Dutch, Swedish, French or Spanish contractors take the top spot, but this was the first time that the league was won by a Chinese company.
Top place in the table was secured by BCEGI Construction (UK) Ltd signing a £700m contract for the construction of 2,000 new homes in Salford for Scarborough Group International. BCEGI was named preferred contractor for the 24-acre Middlewood Locks development back in October 2015 but only last month was the deal closed.
Seizing second place in June with a five contract haul with a combined value of £232m was BAM. The largest of BAM’s new contracts was a £160m deal for construction of a new office block at T2 Canal Reach in North London for Argent.
Narrowly pipped into third place with a combined total of £217.2m was Galliford Try, thanks in part to a  £66m order for subsidiary Linden Homes in Sutton, Surrey.
As is so often the case, Morgan Sindall Group secured more new orders than all its competitors, with 34, to take fourth spot on the BCLive league table with a £189.7m total. This included a £26m order for the construction of a new head office for BUPA at Salford in Lancashire.
However, the rolling annual total of contract awards is now 12% off its start-of-the-year high of £56bn. For the rolling year-to-date, Galliford Try comes out on top, with £2,244.7m of new work won, ahead of BAM in second with £1,681.6m, and Kier in third with £1,613.5m. However, Kier's total excludes a £634m contract won in joint venture with Carillion.
