CH2M Hill scoops Qatar World Cup contract

9 Feb 12 Halcrow's parent company CH2M Hill has won a contract aimed at ensuring the successful delivery of all the infrastructure for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.

The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee has direct responsibility for building the competition venues, including planned stadiums and training sites while maintaining a coordination role for non-competition venues and associated major infrastructure works. These include the New Doha International Airport and the proposed nationwide metro network.

The multi-phased, procurement process took more than six months to complete.聽 After a pre-qualification process, six were invited to submit bids.聽聽

鈥淭he appointment process for this contract began immediately after winning the bid in December 2010,鈥 said the committee鈥檚 secretary general Hassan Al Thawadi. 鈥淲e were cognisant of the importance of ensuring that the correct foundations were put in place at the start of our journey toward 2022.聽 We studied all the proposals with the utmost care in order to ensure that we selected the right partner.聽 While the proposals we received from those companies that made the shortlist were impressive, it was important to us that the appointed company met the set criteria we had in mind, in addition to complimenting and understanding the vision of our committee.聽 We believe that CH2M Hill is the ideal partner.鈥

CH2M Hill鈥檚 role will continue for two years after the tournament to ensure implementation of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee鈥檚 legacy commitments.
