Warrington-based Belfry developed the EcoPod that Carillion has been installing on projects. However, it has now ceased trading. A winding-up petition for Belfry will be heard on 4 November.
Belfry owner Keith Rimmer developed the EcoPod as a low carbon heating system that could be retrofitted into a block of flats. It arrives on site as a single cabinet - a modular plant room - fully commissioned, certified and working ready to be lifted by crane into position. It can be installed on the roof of a building, or beside the building at low level. Recent installations by Carillion include the Metchley House, Derwent House and Coniston House tower blocks in the Harbone area of Birmingham.
Carillion Energy Services formed a joint venture with Belfry, EcoPod Heating Systems, using Belfry as an installation subcontractor.
Carillion said that this EcoPod business was not affected by the collapse of Belfry and that it was continuing to invest in the system.
