Work is expected to start later in 2017 and the new facility, a partnership with the Students鈥 Union, is expected to be completed by September 2019 for the start of the 2019/20 academic year.
Cardiff University鈥檚 Centre for Student Life will be a central hub for student support services as well as housing learning spaces and a 550-seat lecture theatre.
The building has been designed by architect Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, which is also working with BAM at London鈥檚 South Bank Centre.
BAM construction director Craig Allen said: 鈥淥ur appointment reflects the strength of the relationship we forged with Cardiff University working with them on the Hadyn Ellis and CUBRIC (Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre) buildings.
聽鈥淚t also reflects BAM鈥檚 ability to meet the emphasis on the quality and buildability for what is a complex scheme. Good quality partnerships will be crucial for the realisation of this exciting development for students鈥 lives.鈥
University pro vice-chancellor Amanda Coffey said: 鈥淲e welcome the appointment of BAM and look forward to working with them to create an outstanding facility that will benefit students, staff and the city of Cardiff.
