The project will create 2,200 jobs when construction is at its peak.
The construction contract for client Health Infrastructure will deliver an additional 30,000m2 of health services to the campus. It forms part of Health Infrastructure鈥檚 overall capital budget of AU$150m (拢101m), which will be funded by the New South Wales state government.
鈥淭his appointment builds on our reputation for delivering vital health projects in New South Wales and around the world,鈥 said David Ghannoum, regional managing director of New South Wales at Brookfield Multiplex. 鈥淲e look forward to returning to the campus and working with the RNSH once again to deliver a contemporary new facility that supports its high standards of health care.鈥
The nine-level Clinical Services Building will connect with the hospital鈥檚 existing infrastructure and services.
The RNSH is one of the state鈥檚 major trauma centres. The new building will provide a variety of services including a private mental health unit, a women鈥檚 health and maternity unit, a general in patient unit and a severe burns unit.
The facility, designed by Building Studio Architects and Woods Bagot, will incorporate new technologies and have a flexible form to ensure that emerging trends in clinical practice and care models can be easily incorporated into the building.
Construction will start next month with the building expected to be fully operational in late 2014.
