British Gypsum provides support for plastering students at ‘Have a Go’ day

26 Sep 11 As well as sponsoring the plastering and drylining category at WorldSkills London 2011, British Gypsum is hosting a ‘Have a Go’ event for plastering students, giving them the opportunity to try a number of different plastering skills to add to the ones they are learning on their college courses.

The events take place on Wednesday 28 September from 10am at the Saint-Gobain Technical Academy in East Leake, Leicestershire, the Saint-Gobain training academy in Erith, Kent and the drywall academy in Kirkby Thore, Cumbria. Students from local colleges will spend the day trying a number of different skills including; drylining, building GypWall partitions and hand jointing, as well as installing plasterboard and coving.

David Hall, Technical Academy manager at British Gypsum, comments: 鈥淭he 鈥楬ave a Go鈥 Day is a great way for students from regional colleges to try out new techniques and add to their growing skill set. It鈥檚 also a good opportunity for them to talk to experts in their field about the systems and solutions offered by British Gypsum and gain helpful tips for their future career.

鈥淔ollowing the event, the students will have the chance to attend further courses through the Saint-Gobain Technical Academy, enabling them to increase their industry knowledge even further.鈥 聽聽

The 鈥楬ave a Go鈥 day events are part of British Gypsum鈥檚 sponsorship of WorldSkills London 2011, the largest vocational skills competition in the world, and demonstrate its commitment to future construction professionals and the industry as a whole. British Gypsum will also be providing a 鈥楬ave a Go鈥 area at WorldSkills London 2011.

Taking place at ExCeL London from 5 鈥 8 October, WorldSkills London 2011 will see 1,000 competitors from around the world compete in 45 different skill categories including plastering and dry wall systems.

Along with sponsorship of the plastering and drylining category, British Gypsum has also supported UK competitor, Jamie Fineran, who was an apprentice at the Technical Academy in Kirkby Thore, by providing additional training and advice.
