The research, development and innovation partnership agreement is for the construction of an experimental demonstrator in the form of a block of approximately 90 apartments. As well as aiming for self-sufficiency in water and energy, the scheme will also be designed to optimise waste management.
The first demonstrator of the Autonomous Building for Citizens (ABC) concept will be built as part of the Presqu鈥橧le development zone in the heart of the 鈧1.3bn (拢1.1bn) Grenoble EcoCit茅.
ABC is one of Bouygues Construction鈥檚 R&D programmes and has been developed in partnership with architect Valode & Pistre. The demonstrator is intended to incorporate the most technically and architecturally innovative solutions, optimise construction processes and introduce a new vision of housing based on 鈥榣iving better together鈥.
The 鈥楢鈥 for autonomous indicates that the scheme seeks to achieve self-sufficiency in energy 鈥 in terms of electricity and heat - and water and to optimise waste management. It will combine renewable energy production, energy storage and improved control of consumption.
Michel Destot, MP and mayor of Grenoble, said: 鈥淚n welcoming the first ABC demonstrator, Grenoble is pleased to help find a new way of imagining the city of the future, the post-carbon city, in the heart of the Presqu鈥橧le EcoCit茅, which is acknowledged today as one of the biggest urban, scientific, academic and economic projects in Europe, with an investment over 15 years of approximately 鈧1.3bn.鈥
