Boom predicted for NZ construction

5 Jan 12 New Zealand’s NZ$8.5bn (£4.3bn) building sector is predicted to be on the point of a major recovery that will create good opportunities for British firms.

鈥淣ew Zealand鈥檚 Westpac Institutional Bank is predicting that the Christchurch and Canterbury rebuild will bring an extra NZ$20bn in national construction spending, kick starting the industry,鈥 said Paul Arthur, director of UK-based migration specialist the Emigration Group. 鈥淭his investment will lead to a demand for skilled building workers from overseas, creating both good job and business opportunities for skilled construction workers in the UK who are willing to go down under.鈥

The Westpac economists predict Auckland and Christchurch house-building will be a big driver, alongside Christchurch infrastructure work.
