Black & Veatch signs MOU for Indonesian tidal projects

26 Apr 16 Black & Veatch has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SBS for the development of commercial-scale tidal current projects in Indonesia.

Indonesia is one of the world鈥檚 largest archipelagos and has the potential for significant volumes of marine energy. The MoU follows feasibility studies and is expected to lead to an initial facility of 12MW, potentially expanding to 150MW in the future.聽聽

鈥淭his important renewable energy project has the potential to make a significant contribution to meeting Indonesia鈥檚 energy needs, especially on remote islands,鈥 said Tim Baker, technical director, tidal energy, Black & Veatch. 鈥淭he UK鈥檚 tidal current energy technology expertise is among the most advanced in the world. We are delighted SBS has selected Black & Veatch to help use it for the benefit of communities in Indonesia.鈥

鈥淎fter more than three years of research into Indonesia鈥檚 archipelagic ocean resources, resulting in an exclusive offshore site development agreement with state-owned utility PLN, SBS welcomes Black & Veatch鈥檚 global power expertise and UK tidal current experience,鈥 said SBS group chairman and CEO, Michael Spencer. 聽聽
