The range of works for the City of London Primary Academy Islington includes the construction of a new-build two-form-entry primary school, with nursery accommodation on Golden Lane.
The school design comprises a three-storey L-shaped teaching block with classrooms, group spaces, administration and staff areas.
It will be built on the old Richard Cloudesley School site, to the north of the Golden Lane Estate. An existing 1970s building currently occupies the site but this will be demolished as part of a separate contract.
The school is expected to open in temporary accommodation in September 2017 until the permanent school is completed in July 2019.
There will also be a minimum of 70 affordable homes built alongside. The contract notice describes the residential units as 鈥渆ach simply planned, stacked, dual aspect homes鈥. It adds: 鈥淭he height and mass of the residential development has been the subject of much discussion with the Planning Department throughout the development of the Stage 2 design.鈥
