Besix signs for Rotterdam tower

24 May 17 Besix has signed a contract for the engineering and construction of a 100m-tall residential tower alongside the River Maas in the Dutch city of Rotterdam.

The ‘Terraced Tower’, which has been designed by Oz Architects, will be built for real estate developer Provast and client First Sponsor, via FSMC Group of Singapore.

It will rise up on the site of the former offices of insurance company Erasmus Verzekeringen and will house 258 rental apartments and 86 for sale.

The tower derives its name from the unit-wide terraces, which will have views across the city and the river.

Underground, the building will have a parking garage of two floors with a bicycle shed for 688 bikes. The ground floor will have commercial spaces and restaurant facilities, including a restaurant with a view over the river.

Demolition of the old office building will start mid-July. In the meantime, the Besix in-house engineering team and its advisors will continue to develop the construction plans. The tower requires a complex cofferdam and complicated foundations and will be built partly into the body of the river’s dyke.

Construction works should start at the beginning of 2018 and should be finished mid-2020. The project has an investment value of approximately €100m.
