Bechtel completes its largest-ever greenfield project

14 Oct 16 Bechtel has completed construction of Australia’s Curtis Island liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, which is the largest greenfield scheme in the company’s 118-year history.

Australia Pacific LNG has now started sustained production from Train 2 of its facility, marking completion of the six-year global design and construction effort.聽 Bechtel has now delivered all six LNG production trains to three customers 鈥 QGC, Santos GLNG, and Australia Pacific LNG 鈥 on the island, which is off the shore of Queensland just north of the city of Gladstone.

Design and construction of the three LNG plants peaked at more than 30,000 people across seven countries on four continents, including at one point employing almost 14,500 Bechtel staff in Gladstone alone.

The three simultaneous construction programs are part of the largest concentration of private-capital investment in Australia鈥檚 history. The three facilities have the combined capacity to supply 25 million tonnes per annum of LNG 鈥揺qual to about 8% of the world鈥檚 production.
