The 鈥楤uilding Africa through infrastructure鈥 competition is designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students interested in careers in infrastructure, engineering and construction.
鈥淎frican nations face considerable challenges as they tap natural resources to meet the demands of a growing population whilst minimising the impact on the environment,鈥 said Peter Dawson, president of Bechtel's global civil infrastructure business. 鈥淥ur internship competition gives students the chance to apply their thinking to solve some of the real problems faced in emerging countries. Careers in infrastructure offer the opportunity to make a positive, lasting impact and provide incredible job satisfaction.鈥
For their competition entry, students have to identify one country, anywhere in the world, with a specific infrastructure strength and explain how its critical infrastructure, such as water, energy, or transport could be implemented in an African nation. This includes considering what best practice a government of a developing African country might consider as it plans sustainable infrastructure.
Both engineers and non-engineers are encouraged to take part. More details about the 鈥楤uilding Africa through infrastructure鈥 internship competition can be found at (link opens in new tab).
Bechtel鈥檚 work with Engineers Without Borders is part of the company鈥檚 global effort to engage students in engineering, science, technology, and math and to improve the quality of life for people through the company鈥檚 engineering and construction skills. 聽
