The former Wedlock Stand has been demolished and Barr Construction is moving on with steel erection on its 拢45m contract to transform the Ashton Gate stadium in Bristol.
The new South Stand will include a 250-seat restaurant, a glass-fronted sports bar, museum, shop, exhibition space and community classrooms.
Barr Construction鈥檚 steel work installation starts in the southwest corner of the stadium and will take nine weeks to complete erection of the frame.
While the frame is going up, the precast stairs will be installed before moving onto the floor slabs of the stand鈥檚 facilities.
The final stage of the stand鈥檚 construction will be the internal fit-out, which is due to be completed in summer 2015.
The South Stand 鈥 capacity 6,071 鈥 should be ready in time for next season鈥檚 kick-off.
Barr Construction operations manager Mike Henderson (pictured on site below) said: 鈥淣ow we have completed the demolition of the old parts of the stadium, the steel frame going up signals a major milestone in the evolution of the project.聽聽
鈥淪upporters of rugby and football in Bristol will now be able to see with their own eyes how their new stand will look once this project has been completed.鈥澛
While construction on the South Stand is still going on, Barr will also start on the redevelopment of the Dolman Stand in January 2015.聽 This element of the project will see the remodelling of the front tier of the Dolman Stand and integration of the current Dolman roof with the roof of the new South Stand, providing a linking concourse between the two.聽
Refurbishment of the Dolman will be carried out during the 2015-16 close season.聽聽
