B&K hands Castle £6m Glasgow role

31 Jan 14 M&E specialist Castle Building Services has landed a £6m contract on the St Vincent’s Plaza project that is under construction Glasgow.

Main contractor for the 拢29m scheme is Bowmer & Kirkland.

Hebburn-based Castle will provide mechanical and electrical installation services on the 12-storey development. It will use of 3D modelling to co-ordinate its work.

Castle will begin work on site in June 2014 and is scheduled to complete its involvement in the scheme by mid 2015.

The building will provide 170,000 sq ft of energy-efficient Grade A office accommodation for Abstract (Glasgow) Ltd, a subsidiary of Abstract Securities.聽 It is designed to achieve BREEAM 鈥楨xcellent鈥 with an EPC 鈥楤鈥 rating.

Castle director David Harland said the contract was 鈥榯he most financially significant win鈥 since the company formed in 2001.

鈥淗aving worked with Bowmer & Kirkland a significant number of times on other large office fit-outs for major clients such as NPower at Rainton Bridge, we were able to provide them with the certainty and confidence they needed to ensure that the job will be done right first time.,鈥 he said.

鈥淭o provide the end-user with highly energy efficient, contemporary office accommodation there will be a high level of mechanical and electrical services installed. The best way for us to achieve this, within a tight contract value and timescale, will stem from our use of innovative prefabrication techniques.聽 Further to minimising our time on site, this approach will also reduce site waste and contribute to achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating for the building.鈥澛犅
