The new Dunfermline Museum & Art Gallery building (pictured below) will be integrated with the Dunfermline Carnegie Library, which closed in March 2014. It will house a museum over two floors, three temporary exhibition galleries, a caf茅, a new children鈥檚 library and a local history, study and archives space. It is scheduled to open at the end of 2016.
Fife Council has committed 拢8.25m to the project. The Heritage Lottery Fund is contributing 拢2.8m and The Carnegie Dunfermline Trust has committed 拢1m.
BAM Construction regional director Doug Keillor said: 鈥淒esigning and planning a modern building to tie into adjoining existing listed structures is not easy and our team of managers and designers have worked closely with the council to make sure that everything has been thought through and our client is getting exactly what they want and need. It has taken time, but that has been time well spent when you look at the end product. The level of detail we鈥檝e gone into during the planning stage should allow us to deliver a showpiece building on time and budget.鈥
