Some trade magazines had reported the contract as worth 拢70m but the latest issue of the EU Official Journal clearly sets the value at just a shade under 拢43.5m.
Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering聽will build a 2km section of elevated railway, made up of earth ramps, viaduct sections and intersection box structures, to grade separate the realigned main passenger lines from freight lines.
Bam Nuttall, Carillion and Morgan Sindall were also shortlisted for the Reading viaduct implementation works聽 contract.
Work is now expected to start early next year.
