Balfour Beatty wins £245m Warwickshire highways deal

3 Feb 16 Balfour Beatty has been awarded a seven-year highway maintenance contract for Warwickshire County Council, Coventry City Council and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.

The contract is worth 拢245m and comes with an option to extend it for a further three years.

In what is being described as a unique collaborative arrangement in the local authority highways market, Balfour Beatty Living Places will work in partnership with all three councils.

Balfour Beatty has already been Warwickshire鈥檚 highway maintenance contractor for the past five years.

Under the new contract, a directly employed workforce of 120 (including 30 apprentices and 10 graduate placements) will look after more than 5,000km of roads and more than 55,000 street lights.

Group chief executive Leo Quinn said "We build long-term relationships with local authorities that add real value to communities.聽 With a clear focus on the outcomes that matter to communities, we are helping local authorities to deliver better value for money.聽 This contract award is a real endorsement of the excellent service we have provided across Warwickshire since 2011 and gives us the opportunity to build upon our successes."

Last week Balfour Beatty Living Places also secured a 拢55m, two-year extension to its West Sussex highways works. However, its contract with Wiltshire County Council was recently terminated early and has been handed to Ringway instead.
