Balfour Beatty surged to the top of June’s BCLive league table, thanks to a £160m contract to provide a new silo maintenance facility at Sellafield. This was the largest of 23 contracts signed by Balfour Beatty last month.
In second place was Willmott Dixon, thanks mainly to the award of a £120m mixed use development contract in Beverley, Humberside.
Close behind in third was Lend Lease, which landed a £212m contract for the construction of a new super prison in Wrexham.
As seen in the June table below, Morgan Sindall is in seventh place by value but won the most new contracts by volume, with 26 deals signed during the month.
All of these – and the 876 other contract awards recorded by the BCLive league table – contributed to a monthly total of £3.904 billion, pushing the rolling year total close to an unprecedented £40 billion. Â
By comparison, this time last year the rolling 12 month total was £26.4bn and the monthly total for June 2013 was £2.8bn.
Balfour Beatty is also sitting at the top of the table for the past 12 months, having booked 154 contracts worth a total of £2,020m in the year to 30 June 2014. Morgan Sindall takes second place in the rolling year table, with 251 contracts worth £1,313m. Carillion, Willmott Dixon and Kier complete the top five, having all signed more than £1bn of new orders in the past 12 months.
Based solely on volume of new tenders, London still accounts for a quarter of the market. Based on the value of those tenders, however, London accounts for 35%.
