The project will connect the New Lubbesthorpe Sustainable Urban Extension (NLSUE) housing development to the west of Leicester with the road network in the east.
The 52-metre span bridge will be built from composite steel and reinforced concrete with a pier located in the M1 central reserve. The project also includes the construction of approximately 350 metres of two lane single-carriageway road, foot and cycle ways.
Balfour Beatty was awarded the contract through the Midlands Highways Alliance Framework.
Balfour Beatty regional managing director Mike Reade said: 鈥淭hrough this latest award we will demonstrate Balfour Beatty鈥檚 ability to deliver vital transport infrastructure schemes while offering clear benefits to the local community. We have now secured 拢20m of work through the alliance since 2014 and we look forward to delivering much more.鈥
The project is expected to be completed during summer 2016.
