As part of the station鈥檚 redevelopment, Balfour Beatty will carry out enabling works ahead of platform 1 being lengthened to accommodate four-carriage trains.
To enable the platform extension, a staff accommodation block currently located on platforms 1 and 2 needs to be demolished and facilities relocated.
The facilities within this block will be relocated to a new staff building to allow the demolition. Balfour Beatty will build a new staff building on the North Hanover Street side of the station in April, with completion due in spring 2018.
The work is part of the Edinburgh-Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP), delivering a rolling programme of rail electrification across the central belt. So far, EGIP has completed the 拢80m electrification of the Cumbernauld line, the 拢25m redevelopment of Edinburgh鈥檚 Haymarket station and the 拢41m Edinburgh Gateway train-tram interchange.
